Playground Safety

Prevention of playground, recreation, and sports injuries involves:
  • Maintenance of playground equipment such as swings, seesaws, monkey bars, etc.

  • Installation and maintenance of appropriate protective railings

  • Use of appropriate surfaces under swings and seesaws to protect from injury (e.g., deep sand, compost, etc.). Maintenance of skates, skateboards, sleds, etc.

  • Use of appropriate protective equipment (e.g., helmets, and knee, elbow, chest protectors).

  • Use of safety habits:
    • Stay clear of swings, seesaws, and monkey bars
    • Wait turns for rides
    • Look around before swinging a bat or tennis racket and don't ever throw a bat or racket
    • Don't play near the road or dart into the road to get a ball
    • Don't climb to get a kite or fly it around trees or power lines
