Retirement Announcement from ThinkFirst

Debby Gerhardstein, former Executive Director of ThinkFirst Nation Injury Prevention Foundation, retires after 25 years with the organization.  She was originally a chapter director at Central DuPage Hospital – now Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage for 13 years from 1994 – 2007 and has been the Executive Director from 2007 – 2019. Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death children, teens and young adults as well as older adults and most injuries are preventable.

Return to Play following Concussion in Football: Our NFL Experience article in the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) online Neurosurgeon publication.  Dr. Joseph Maroon, one of the original founders and former ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Board member discusses, with his colleagues, turning the sports fields of strife into a science and the birth of ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation.

2019 ThinkFirst Conference on Injury Prevention

The 2019 ThinkFirst Conference on Injury Prevention was held at the Wyndham Bayside, San Diego, April 13-14. The theme for this year’s conference was Charting the Course to Zero.  A pre-conference training day was held April 12th, followed by a Community Helmet Event, fitting 100 people with free bicycle helmets in Waterfront Park. The Anchors Away! Reception was held Saturday evening on the Maritime Museum's Berkeley Ferryboat, and the ThinkFirst Awards Luncheon was held Sunday, April 14th.

The ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation (ThinkFirst Foundation) was recently awarded two grants for projects pertaining to traffic safety education for reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
